1949 Patriotism Bond

The first 1949 Patriotism Bond was issued on August 1st, 1949. The bond was planned to issue 300 million silver dollars, and 50% could be sold in domestic and other 50% in foreign countries. But the government moved to Taiwan by end of the same year due to the unexpected situation. Taiwan became the funds raising place for the bond. The sales of the government bonds issued in Taiwan was not so smooth-going. The “New Government Bond System” was established in 1959. With the experience of issuing T-bills and many years learning, the government bonds have become a major instrument of financing for the government. The Patriotism Bond (Yearly Government Bond) was issued before 1973 and was a deficit government bond. The government issued Construction Bond after 1975 for promoting the 10 great constructions in Taiwan.
